“The phrase was originally coined by Harry Gordon Selfridge, the founder of Selfridge’s department store in London in 1909.
It' purpose is to.

1. Convince customers they will get good service

2. Convince employees to give good service

Reasons a customer is not always right

1. Some customers hardly get satisfied.

2. The phrase gives abusive customers unfair advantage thus making employees work real hard.

3. Some customers are bad for business and need to be fired.

4. The phrase results into bad bad customer service. When a company consistently sides with customers the employees feel devalued and stop caring about service.

5. Some customers are just plain wrong.
